The Lisboa Acolhe (Lisbon Hosts) information portal – a source of information on topics such as health, housing and regularisation for migrants who live or want to live in Lisbon – is now online. The initiative was developed by the House of Brazil in Lisbon, under the II Municipal Plan for the Integration of Migrants in Lisbon.
In a statement to the media Mr. Manuel Grilo, the Deputy Mayor for Social Rights of Lisbon Municipal Authorities, said that the portal will be “a process in constant construction” and will gather relevant information in a single digital site. In his words, “by converging all this information in one digital address, the portal aims to be a hub for migrants wanting to access all relevant information that is usually spread across different government sites without articulation”. The project, which was born “from and for immigrants”, aims to make Lisbon a city that increasingly promotes equality for all those who choose to live in the capital.
According to the municipality the initiative arose from several existing partnerships, involving “migrant people, associations, governmental and non-governmental organisations, academia and other people interested in disseminating relevant information to promote the participation and guarantee of the rights of migrants in Portugal, especially in the city of Lisbon”.
Mr. Manuel Grilo said: “The methodology adopted to build this portal was participatory, with 13 focus groups, either in person or online, which brought together a total of 151 participants. The choice of content, based on the needs raised by the target population and entities, is a great challenge and an important action to reduce inequalities in opportunity”.
